With a holistic approach, Dr. Grace addresses the causes of IBS and develops a comprehensive treatment plan to support digestive health, relieve symptoms, and improve your overall quality of life.

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

IBS is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea, constipation, or a mix of both (known as IBS-D, IBS-C, and IBS-M). Though the exact cause of IBS is not fully understood, it is often linked to stress, diet, digestive infections, and changes in gut microbiota. IBS is a chronic condition, but with the right approach, symptoms can be effectively managed and minimized.

What to Expect in Your IBS Treatment Journey

During your first visit, we’ll conduct a comprehensive health assessment, discuss your IBS symptoms in detail, and explore potential triggers and lifestyle factors. You’ll receive a personalized plan that addresses your individual needs, potential testing, including dietary recommendations, supplements, and stress management techniques.

Questions about IBS

Contact us for additional questions related to Digestive Health.

  • Common signs of IBS include chronic abdominal pain or discomfort, changes in stool consistency, and fluctuations between constipation and diarrhea. If you experience these symptoms for at least three months, it’s advisable to see a healthcare provider for an IBS evaluation.

  • Many people with IBS find relief through dietary modifications like a low-FODMAP diet, which reduces specific fermentable carbohydrates that can cause gas and bloating. Increasing fiber intake gradually and staying hydrated can also help regulate bowel movements. However, it is imperative to note that the low FODMAP diet is a TEMPORARY intervention, not a way of eating for life.

  • There are a few testing options to look at digestive health.

    • SIBO Breath testing

    • Food sensitivity testing

    • Stool testing

Testing for GI health can be tricky, as testing options are limited and we do not know enough about the microbiome to warrant the high prices of private testing. Testing for GI health is often marketed as a black and white solution to GI health, but testing is not sophisticated enough to truly capture a picture of your digestive microbiome.

However, testing may be of assistance in certain situations and it will be context dependant.
